The best and easiest way on how to get a job fast involves following a simple system and process for getting that job you want. If you’ve been struggling for some time now to get a job or only recently started looking, follow the steps below to get a job, and cash, fast!
1. What do you have to offer?
You probably already know the types of jobs you are looking for, but in order for these companies and jobs to take a look at you, you have to have something valuable to offer them. This is vital for how to get a job fast. What are your skills? What have you always been good at? What have been your accomplishments that go along closely with the job you are wanting? Answer those questions and write them down on a piece of paper. Most people are going to want to skip this step because it requires a little work, but if you do skip this step you won’t find a job in the quickest way possible. You’re going to keep trying to find a job, and only after trying and not succeeding will many come back to step one. Do yourself, and your time a favor, and answer those questions from earlier. Make sure you write your answers down.
2. Build a Powerful Resume.
Now that you have written down your skills and accomplishments, we now know what exactly you have to offer to a potential company. Make sure you follow the standards for writing a resume. Don’t use crazy font or different colors. Make sure you focus on what exactly YOU have to offer to a particular company. You should be communicating to them why they should hire you as opposed to anyone else who is applying for the job. If you can communicate THAT, you’ll be hired. 3. Begin the hunt.
Now it’s time to find your job. If you are wanting to search locally you can begin by checking with your areas Career or Job Center to stay up to date of the recent job listings. You can also check locally by searching in google. Say you live in the Denver area, just type into google: “jobs + Denver” This will bring up different job sites for the Denver area. Now, an even better way to search is if you know what type of job you are looking for. Type into google: “nurse + job board.” This will bring up job sites that are focused just on nursing if you were looking for nursing. Just replace nursing with whatever type of job you are looking for and it will do the same. This can be one of the most effective and fastest ways to find a job.
4. Begin the hunt. Part II. (Your network)
Most people attribute their success in finding a job because those they knew helped them along the way. Tell everyone you know that you are looking for a job. Ask them to tell you if they know of any openings. Those that you are going to talk to are within the four F’s: friends, family, friends of family, and family of friends. Make sure you follow up with any leads they may have and thank them for their time.
5. Apply, apply, and apply some more.
Once you have found jobs that you can apply for submit your resume to all of them. Keep checking websites and your network to see if there are any new job openings. It’s important to continue to apply to as many jobs as possible. It’s simple: the more jobs you apply for the higher your odds of getting a new job.
6. Stay Dedicated.
Make sure you stick to this process. Continue to talk to your network, and look for jobs everyday. If you find out about any new jobs, apply for them. Also, if you haven’t heard back from jobs you have applied for and it’s been a week or two, it’s ok to send a follow up email to see where they are in the process. Looking for a job can be an emotional roller coaster, stick to the process and it will be more easily manageable.
7. Interview like a rock star!
I don’t necessarily mean walking in to an interview with your own theme music, but I do want you to rock the interview. Make sure you get to the interview at least 10 minutes early. Always dress for success. Guys you should be wearing at least a collared shirt and tie to the interview, along with dress pants. Ladies, you should wear a professional looking dress or suit. If you are having any doubts on what to wear, wear the nicest outfit possible. If anything, you will be over dressed and it will reflect more highly upon you.
Now, when actually interviewing it’s very important to BE YOURSELF. Don’t try and anticipate what they’re looking, because you don’t know. Plus, being confident in yourself is just more fun. It’s during the interview that you get the opportunity to really sell yourself. This is where you really need to communicate why they should hire you as opposed to any other applicant.
Once the interview is done make sure to shake every one’s hand who was there and thank them for their time.
8. Follow up.
As soon as you get home from the interview send an email to each of the individuals who interviewed you. Thank them for their time and mention it was a pleasure chatting with them today. Redundant, I know, but a personal touch like this is rarely done, and it could be the difference between them hiring you and someone else.
9. Rinse and Repeat.
Repeat steps 3 through 8.
That is how to get a job fast. Follow these simple steps and remember to stay dedicated to the process. If you do, you will certainly get a job in no time!
